Academy of Finance
The Academy of Finance of Wake County, Inc. (AOF) is affiliated with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) and is the only AOF program in Wake County. The NAF model works by bringing business people into the public schools and introducing youth to the world of business. Through the Academies, educators and business people are partners for investing This program introduces students to broad career opportunities in the financial services industry and, in the process, equips them to make sound business and financial choices for their future through field trips, guest speakers, workshops and training sessions. The program operates as a “school within a school” as students are grouped as a cohort and take a series of classes, complete a 200 hour paid internship and complete a college course prior to graduation.
Air Force JROTC
The mission of the Sanderson High School Air Force JROTC program is to "Develop Citizens of Character Dedicated to Serving Their Nation and Community." The citizen-building process is accomplished through several academic and extracurricular activities. These activities provide cadets with opportunities to develop their leadership skills, practice public speaking, plan and organize community-service projects, take Curriculum-In-Action (field) trips, and participate in military drill and ceremonies. In addition to citizenship-building activities, AFJROTC provides academic instruction in a variety of aerospace science subjects including the history of aviation, the fundamentals of flight, the global studies, leadership, and survival. Emphasis is placed on building strong character traits such as respect for self, others, the school, the American Flag, and our Nation. No military service obligation results from participating in the AFJROTC program.
The Paideia Program
Offered to ninth and tenth graders, Paideia is an interdisciplinary program in English and social studies that encourages students to think across subject areas and curriculum boundaries. These courses are designed to develop students’ critical and analytical thinking skills. Forms of instruction include traditional didactic methods, bi-weekly seminars, and supervised coaching.
