(AP) Program
Advanced Placement Program
The purpose of the Advanced Placement (AP) program is to offer college-level courses to high school students. Administered by the College Board, the AP program includes both courses as well as a testing program that colleges and universities may utilize to grant credit to students who have done well on AP examinations.
Students can choose to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses as a part of their high school curriculum, during their junior and senior years. Sanderson offers an array of AP courses for students to choose from (just consult the Sanderson Program/Planning Guide to see what is available for the current year). All students enrolled in AP courses have the option to take the AP exam for that corresponding course.
Students interested in learning more about the value of AP courses should contact their school counselor. More information on AP courses and exams is available by visiting: www.collegeboard.com .
Registration for AP exams take place in March of each school year and AP exams are administered in May. The cost of AP exams is subject to change each year.
AP Course Statement of Understanding: All students interested in signing up for an AP course, regardless of whether or not they are recommended, will be required to read and sign a Statement of Understanding. This statement describes the academic rigor and commitment needed to be successful in an Advanced Placement, college level, course. We want all of our students to feel supported and informed as they begin the learning process in one of our 15 AP courses. This form will be available in Student Services and online for the duration of each registration window.
