Drop/Add Rationale
After students make course requests, we gather the requests to determine the number of sections to offer in each course. We maximize resources by building full class sections. We then assign staff to the sections based on experience and certification.

By the drop/ add point, the SHS school scheduling team has made many decisions in the best interest of the entire school. These decisions involve facility use, teacher employment decisions, as well as the purchase of additional resources (texts, tables, technologies, etc), to meet student requests. A large number of students dropping and adding courses reduces class size balance school wide, and creates inequity in teacher loads and waste in unused resources.

Therefore, drop/add requests will not be honored simply because the student has had a change of heart. Requests will be honored only as delineated in the drop/add process.

Drop/Add in the summer after schedules are mailed
Once schedules are posted on-line, students will have the opportunity to participate in online drop-add. Ms. Battle, in order to be consistent, will respond to all drop-add requests. Current Sanderson students will receive a registration newsletter with PIN number and drop-add information. Rising 9th grade students will receive the newsletter and PIN number in the mail in the summer.

Changes will only be made for the 5 approved drop-add reasons:

  1. The student has a hole in the schedule.
  2. The student has already earned credit in the course.
  3. The student is a senior and does not have all the courses required for graduation.
  4. The student has a course scheduled out of sequence.
  5. The student would like to balance core courses between the two semesters.

Any other changes must be approved by Dr. Decker or Ms. Mosher.
