SHS Teacher of the Year
Jasmine Hart 2008-2009
Ms. Hart believes “the classroom should be a cooperative environment in which the students and teacher grow as independent and critical thinkers,” and has followed that philosophy during her ten-year career at Sanderson High School. She also understands the importance of working with the students outside of the classroom and being a leader and collaborator.
Since joining the Sanderson staff in January of 1998, she has acted as choreographer for eight of the spring musicals; directed two musicals; choreographed routines for the Choral Department’s spring concert; began and coached the Sanderson Dance Team; and acted as a Student Council Advisor for more than eight years. She has mentored five beginning teachers and coached three student teachers. Jasmine has also served as the NC Wise contact at Sanderson for three years and is currently on the PLC celebration team.
Jasmine earned National Board Certification in 2003; since then she and colleague Jennifer Elmo have facilitated a National Boards Support Group here, as well as worked for NCAE and NCCAT with their NB Support Workshops. Jasmine has been chosen to serve as the State Farm Liaison to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, working statewide supporting candidates and training candidate support providers.
Outside of school, she is a member of the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Tournament Silent Auction Committee. Currently, however, she spends most of her time with her dog, Cinnamon, and working on her master’s degree in English Education at NC State. She plans to graduate in May 2009. She has been chosen as the Sanderson High School Teacher of the Year and has recently graduated to the semi-finalist round.
