Letter From The President
Hello Spartans!
This year, the Sanderson High School PTSA is holding true to its Mission Statement, offering opportunities for involvement and collaboration for parents and students alike.
Our Plan of Work this year includes the following:
Alive at 25 – every third year parents, administration and teachers collaborate on the Car Crash/Grim Reaper activity of the Alive at 25 Program. This year’s Seniors saw the simulated car crash on the football field as freshmen three years ago, and heard the words of Dr. Rosemarie Newman, mother of Sadiki Young, a Wakefield student who was fatally killed in a car crash while coming home from a neighborhood party. PTSA will be repeating this program this year in the spring, and will be relying on parent volunteers. Be watching the Yahoo for a call to volunteer.
21st Century Classroom sponsor – The PTSA board voted to contribute the funds necessary to completely outfit a 21st Century Classroom from money raised in the No Fuss Fundraiser. This effort will take almost ½ of our budgeted funds.
One Sanderson – PTSA is taking the lead this year to bring all the parent volunteer groups together to discuss how to better present the Sanderson Community’s volunteer opportunities to new parents. We are unique at Sanderson, with each parent volunteer group acting independently, and PTSA has heard from new parents how difficult this is to understand. We look forward to working with the many parent volunteer groups towards a collaborative communication effort.
Campus Renewal – This is year one in a seven year commitment for Buildings and Grounds to renew and refurbish our exterior. Our committee chair is organizing various work sessions and opportunities for the Sanderson Community to take part in, and will be collaborating with parent and student led organizations.
PTSA is also the sponsor of the Spartan Newsletter, mailed home 4 times this year, and the Yahoo News Group, which keeps parents informed on the weekly happenings in the Sanderson Community. PTSA also recognizes teachers through our Lifesavers Awards, and students through our Kudos Program. We serve our fine teaching staff, providing class sponsored luncheons, and pay for a table at the Wake County Public School’s Teacher of the Year Banquet. We are very excited to be collaborating with the Web Design class this year, who offered to create and maintain the PTSA website.
All this cannot happen – without you! The No-Fuss Fundraiser is our only active means for funds; this year budgeted at $10,000. The No-Fuss Fundraiser will be making its way to your home via US Mail during the third week of September. In an effort to save postage, it is combined with the membership form for PTSA. Please take a moment to respond to our mailer, and send your check in soon.
We look forward to your participation and support through membership and volunteering.
Go Spartans!
