Yearbook: The Lakonikos, the official title for Sanderson’s yearbook, received its Greek name because it means “concise” (as in a brief report of the school year) and because it refers to the area near Sparta, Greece where, naturally, you find many Spartans!

To order The Lakonikos, please call the publishing company, Jostens, at 1-866-282-1516 from October through January. We suggest adding your child’s name to the front cover for an additional fee. We try to hand-deliver personalized yearbooks to the classroom. This year’s book will feature even more pages and more color at $60 plus tax.

Early in the school year students will be asked to verify their home addresses to receive direct contact from Jostens. Yearbooks have sold out twice in the past three years, so early orders are recommended. Questions? Call 881-4812 and leave a message.

The last day for seniors to have their senior portraits made for the yearbook is October 09, 2008. Call Prestige Portraits at 571-0075.

Sandscript: The student newspaper is published six to eight times each year. Students may enroll in Newspaper and receive credit for the course.

Grains of Sand: Sanderson’s literary magazine is published at least once a year and contains original poems, short stories, etc. Any student or faculty member may submit items for publication.

Junior Marshalls

Marshals are selected at the end of the third grading period based on the projected cumulative weighted GPA at the end of the junior year with consideration given to the cultural diversity of the student body. Marshals participate in a number of special events including Graduation and Awards Day.

Campus Facilities

Media Center

The Media Center is open from 7:35 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for students’ course-related research, personal research, and recreational reading. Library passes are required at lunch. No pass is required before and after school until 3:15. Food and beverages are not allowed in the library. A fee of $.05 per school day is charged for overdue materials. A fine of $1.50 per school day is charged for overdue reference books, pamphlets, and magazines.

Health Room

Anytime a student reports to the Health Room due to illness he/she must have a note from a teacher and check in with the Student Services technician. If a student wishes to leave school due to illness, a parent must be reached by the Attendance Office technician. In emergencies when parents are not available, the student must seek permission from their assigned administrator to leave school.

Lockers

Lockers and locks are provided for every student. To prevent the loss of property, avoid giving your lock combination to anyone, be sure the locker door is firmly closed, and that the lock is in place. Sanderson High School is not responsible for items stolen or misplaced from your locker. Lockers are school property and may be searched by school personnel. The fee for a lost lock is $5.00. Information for each student is available in SPAN.

Parking

All campus parking is by permit only. Students may buy permits during the first week of school. The cost is $120. Cars found on campus (any lot) lacking hang tags, or parked in the wrong space will be ticketed and/or booted at the owner’s expense. The first incident that results in a vehicle being booted will carry a $25 fine. Repeat offenders will forfeit their parking privilege without reimbursement. A parking lot security guard is on duty daily. Students are not permitted to go to the parking lot during the school day without permission from administration. Parking privileges may be revoked as a disciplinary consequence.

Elevators

In order to use the elevator, a student must bring a note from the doctor stating the reason and length of time elevator service is needed. This note should be brought to Ms. White in the main office. She will issue an elevator pass. Lost/non-returned keys will result in a $5 fine.

Restricted Areas

During lunch, all students, except juniors/seniors with lunch passes, must remain in the cafeteria. All other areas, including classrooms, gymnasiums and parking lots are off-limits. Students wishing to see a counselor, go to the Career Development Center, the library, or return to a teacher’s classroom must have a hall pass before reporting to the cafeteria and must show the pass to the teacher/administrator on duty.
