Sanderson hosts a Rising 9th Grade Open House especially for 8th grade student and parents who would like to know more about what Sanderson has to offer.
The Open House date generally occurs near the end of February each year. Please refer to the SHS web calendar for information and event details.

The 9th grade schedule
All students entering 9th grade for the first time (except students in the Occupational course of study) will choose from the following courses:

English (choose 1 option)
- English I with Seminar, 2 credits
- English I Honors, 1 credit
- Paideia English I & World History, 2 credits
- Paideia English I Honors & World History Honors, 2 credits

Math (choose 1 option)
- Foundations of Algebra (Fall)--for students scoring a level 1 or 2 on the 8th grade math EOG, paired with Introductory Mathematics (Spring) 2 credits
- Introductory Mathematics (Spring) (also known as Pre-Algebra), 1 credit
- Common Core Math IA & IB (formerly known as Algebra I Parts I & II), 2 credits
- Special Topics in Mathematics & Common Core Math II Honors (Fall & Spring), 2 credits
- Common Core Math II Honors, 1 credit
- Algebra II Honors, 1 credit

Science (choose 1 option)
- Earth Science- for students recommended for Foundations of Algebra, Introductory Math, Common Core Math IA & IB
- Honors Biology- for students recommended for Core Math II Honors or Algebra II Honors, 1 credit

History (choose 1 option)
- World History, 1 credit
- World History Honors, 1 credit
- Paideia World History (paired with English I Paideia)
- Paideia World Hisotry Honors (paired with English I Paideia Honors)

Healthful Living
- Healthful Living I, 1 credit
- JROTC/Healthful Living I (1 semester)
- Instrumental Music: Instrumental Music (Band) (for 2 semesters)
- Instrumental Music: Vocal Music (for 2 semesters)
- Instrumental Music: Orchestra (for 2 semesters)
All freshmen are expected to enroll in Healthful Living I, unless they are participating in one or more of the following courses:

Electives
Students will generally have one or two electives to choose their freshman year. Students will need to count up the credits from their core/primary selections (English, math, science, history and healthful living). If those total six (6), the student has two primary electives to choose. If those total seven (7), the student has one primary elective to choose. If those total eight (8), the student has no primary electives to choose.

Registering for Classes
Rising 9th grade students will receive Sanderson course registration information from their 8th grade school counselors. Please contact your middle school counselor for details.
Students will need to select eight (8) primary classes and three (3) alternate classes.
