Important Details about Summer School
Summer school is available on a limited basis, with priority given first to seniors that need credit to graduate, juniors that need credit to be promoted, and sophomores that need credit to be promoted. Other factors for consideration are course availability and the student's ability to work independently on the assigned computer program (Nova Net). Students are under the direct supervision of a Sanderson teacher. There is no cost for Summer School. A very limited number of seats are available.

Summer school consists of two sessions; a morning session (8:00-11:30 AM) or an afternoon session (12:00-3:30 PM) that will run five days a week (Monday through Friday). Students do not get a preference regarding which session they are assigned, so it is important that their schedule remain flexible. Students complete credit for core classes (no electives offered). Summer school may be taken for repeat credit only (no original credit). Please note that transportation to/from school is not provided; students will need to arrange their own regular and reliable transportation.

Attendance is critical. Students who miss more than two class sessions (excused or unexcused reasons) will be dropped from the class and receive a "WF" (withdraw failing) on their high school transcript. A WF is included in the calculation for a student's GPA, or grade point average.

Please note that a grade earned in summer school does not replace the previous "F" earned. The previous course with final grade and the new course with final grade both appear on the transcript and both grades are included in the calculation of the student's overall GPA (grade point average).

For Accepted Students
Classes begin Monday, July 8th, 2013 and end August 6th, 2013. Summer school testing will take place August 5th and 6th for designated students.

Final grades for summer school will be issued during the week of August 6th. Student transcripts will be updated to include the summer school course and final grade shortly after. Student schedules will also be reviewed to ensure that any course passed in summer school is not also listed on the student's 2013-14 course schedule. Students' grade level status will also be reviewed and students eligible for promotion to the next grade level will be promoted. Summer school report cards and promotion status letters will be mailed to parents/guardians of summer school students by the 3 rd week of August.

Please note that a grade earned in summer school does not replace the previous "F" earned. The previous course with final grade and the new course with final grade both appear on the transcript and are both grades are included in the calculation of the student's overall GPA (grade point average).

Summer school seniors who have the ability to graduate after successful completion of summer school may participate in a summer school graduation held on Thursday, August 8th at Enloe High School. Students planning on graduating through summer school must notify Mr. Smith immediately after being accepted to attend, as well as indicate their intent to participate (or not) in the August graduation ceremony.
Other Credit Recovery Opportunities
Students may seek an opportunity to complete credit recovery through NCVPS, an independent, online program of study offered by the state of North Carolina. Students interested in opportunities for credit recovery through NCVPS or other programs should contact their assigned school counselor. Please note that this program does not run on the same school calendar as SHS.

Students approved for participation in any credit recovery opportunity must complete the program once enrolled. Students who do not complete the course by the stated deadline will receive a final grade of "F" in the course. Students who choose not to finish the course will receive a "WF" (Withdraw Failing) in the course.

Please note that a grade earned through credit recovery does not replace the previous "F" earned. The previous course with final grade and the new course with final grade both appear on the transcript. Passing scores in credit recovery courses are generally issued a final grade of "P". The "P" is added to the student’s transcript to indicate the credit has been earned. A "P" has no affect on the student’s GPA (grade point average).

Sanderson High School does not promote, nor endorse any paid credit programs. Students and parents interested in other credit recovery programs are welcome to contact the Student Services office with that program information.
Keystone National High School
Students who are not accepted to participate in Sanderson’s summer school program and/or NCVPS summer recovery choose may wish to complete a credit through Keystone National High School. Keystone offers credit recovery in most required courses as well as some electives. Pricing for each recovery course varies depending on the type of course taken (correspondence or online) and duration (Part A or B, or Parts A & B). Students interested in completing a Keystone course should contact their assigned school counselor. If after the end of the school year, students should contact the Student Services office at (919) 881-4820 for assistance.

Students completing a Keystone recovery course can expect to receive a Pass or Fail evaluation from Keystone. Once Sanderson receives the grade, the course name, grade (P or F) and corresponding credit will be added to the student’s transcript. Students who do not complete the course by the prescribed deadline receive a final grade of "F" on the transcript. Students who choose not to complete a course once enrolled receive a "WF" (Withdraw Failing) on the high school transcript. The grade appears on the student transcript and is included in the calculation of a student’s overall GPA (grade point average).

Applications for Keystone National High School’s Credit Recovery program will be available in the Student Services office following the close of the school year. Students must complete the Keystone application and a Wake County Dual Enrollment application. Parent signatures are required on both documents. Students need to contact the Student Services office at (919) 881-4820 to schedule a time to discuss eligibility and complete paperwork.

Completed Keystone applications are due to Student Services no later than Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 by 4pm. Applications will not be accepted or reviewed after that point. Once approved, it is the student’s/ parent’s responsibility to submit the application to Keystone with payment. The course completion date provided by Keystone may vary, but the student will need to finish the course no later than Tuesday, August 14th, 2012. This will allow Keystone time to process a final grade and submit that to Sanderson for review and placement on the student’s transcript.

Please note that Sanderson High School does not promote, nor endorse any paid credit programs. Students and parents interested in other credit recovery programs are welcome to contact the Student Services office with that program information for review.
