About Us

Sanderson High School, established in 1968, is part of the Wake County Public School System and is accredited by Cognia and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Located in North‑central Raleigh, our campus benefits from close proximity to major universities, colleges, and the Research Triangle Park, enriching opportunities for our students.

Faculty and Staff

Sanderson is supported by a strong professional team that includes 99 classroom teachers and 47 additional staff members dedicated to academic excellence. Twelve percent of teachers are National Board Certified, and 74 percent have more than three years of experience. Our staff is committed to preparing students for future educational and career success.

Academics and Curriculum

Sanderson follows a 4 x 4 block schedule, allowing students to earn up to eight credits each year. We offer a robust selection of Advanced Placement courses, more than 80 Honors classes, and a wide range of electives across English, math, science, social studies, fine arts, CTE, world languages, and AFJROTC. Students in the Class of 2025 earned more than 1.1 million dollars in scholarships.

Student Body

Our student population is culturally diverse, with about 1,600 students representing many racial and ethnic backgrounds. Graduates in the Class of 2025 pursued a variety of post‑secondary pathways: 55.7 percent to four‑year colleges, 29 percent to community colleges or trade programs, and 15.3 percent to the military, workforce, or other opportunities. Over 92 percent of the class completed AP or Honors coursework.

Athletics

Sanderson competes in the Triangle Six 6A/7A conference and offers a full range of athletic programs, including cross‑country, football, soccer, swimming and diving, lacrosse, tennis, wrestling, volleyball, softball, baseball, cheerleading, and track and field.

Clubs and Activities

Students can choose from a wide array of extracurriculars such as AFJROTC, marching band, vocal music, theater, Academy of Finance, Student Council, DECA, academic competitions, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, FCA, Key Club, and many more.
